Imagine:
You’re told that you’ll be taking part in a live AV Technology practice at a local mall nearby. You ask: “Oh what kind of?” The answer was…
A FASHION SHOW !
Okay, I must admit, this was one of the most exciting projects we had to do the whole spring: erect a whole Fashion Show stage with all its thingamabobs and all!
Well, what did I do? —Glad you asked!
I partook in, yes, 1) erecting the stage (carry the stage pieces, legs, trusses… everything you need to successfully build a stage), but on the side 2) was given –or rather I happened to be the person who first paid attention and interest the task towards to handle the audio mixing, live.
The live mixing was surprisingly stressful, because you must constantly be aware and monitor the outcoming audio out of the speakers and do proactive actions to avoid the microphone from picking up and multiplying the incoming audio on the speakers, resulting in a feedback loop, which can be very painful for the audience to listen to. Can you believe it?
Even though the day was physically and psychedelically tough, I did enjoy the day as I was pretty much–I can leave the words "pretty much" out, because I was in fact the only one from Outokumpu to stay and watch and operate the audio during the show, and honestly, I am happy I did.
I loved the show and seeing the fresh pieces from both Riveria’s own designers and the nearby boutique and brand shops’ own fresh collection for the spring that were all made to inspire the audience for this summer’s outfits.
🤔 So, did I learn anything?
I mean, most likely. It belongs to my nature to be a little bit spontaneous and grab into most outcoming challenges, such as the live audio mix, which I ended up liking anyway and thus kept me motivated as I remember saying: “This is exactly the reason why I came to study media at Riveria”.
I learned to proactively mix live, work as a part of an AV technician group under public eye (which I liked and didn’t really mind as I made a few struts of my own on the stage way before the show anyway~) and take a few tips from the fashion industry teachers!
✨ And any points for improvement?
As with anything, surely.
Be braver and your own self.
Be careful with the equipment and do not overtighten the fastening irons, because they do bend under stress (heh)
Honestly, I don’t really know what else. Just be aware and learn as you go.
