These works were made as part of the "3x30sec" challenge given by our teacher in the MAT26-course, Pasi Räsämäki, where the goal were to aim to create three 30-second short videos, but as the challenge went on, the students in the course — myself included, realized that creating a short, 30-second video is surprisingly little time and this in itself, gave a creative challenge for us to overcome.
On top of that, we were also given an assignment to document Riveria Dancer's Solo-works. And how did I get through this?
Well…
The definitive Works were as follows:
1) Quick-fire questions
During the first week of the project, I wanted to create something fairly simple, a quick interview that introduces people to the dancers. Because the assignment was to aim for creating short videos, I tried to deliver exactly that, with the form of short-form "Quick-fire" questions.
I interviewed three of the dancers available on the first week.
2) Behind the dance: What's the story behind the solo?
For my second week, I set my goal to create, again, a short-form video where one of the dancers explains their solo and the story behind it.
3) Compilation: The Solos
The third week was the time for the showtime. This is where all of their planning, practicing and negotiations have all gone into.
What did I learn?
How to communicate with the dancers, come up with rapid short-form content idea development and somehow/what executing them.
Points to improve:
Lower expectations
Trust the process rather than perfecting it on the first go.
Maybe do not leave the videos to hang on the day of the deadline… (Well, it is proven that autistic/neurodivergent people like me thrive in stress. It wasn't the first nor last time I was in such hurdle.)
