Imagine:
You just returned from a very challenging time of your life back to the safety of your home where no one is there to command you to do yet another task. Though your body still shivering and shaking from the experience that more or less retraumatized you from your past, you're taking your sweet time to self-soothe yourself.
You lie back and close your eyes.
Inhale.
You hold it in for a few seconds.
Exhale.
You try to concentrate on how the air smells and feels like.
Is it cold? Is it moist? -Is it just right? Am I still stuck in the woods? What is this strange feeling in me? Am I still being hunted?
You shake your head in disbelief.
The very painful feeling of returning home hit you hard like a long fall from the sky you just soared for months on end. Now you're just lying on the grass, pretty much beat out of air.
You feel powerless. Days blur into one another. You barely feel anything. "I'm probably numb", you find asking yourself.
Until, you feel it all again all at once.
